Tree #232 is a 12-year-old Nana Juniper trained in the cascade style — its lead branch sweeps down and over the edge of the pot in a graceful 20-inch fall, the way junipers grow off a cliff face in the wild. It stands 9 inches tall in a black glazed ceramic pot (8″ × 6″ × 4″) whose clean lines set off the movement of the tree.

Nana Junipers are tough, forgiving evergreens and a classic choice for a first bonsai — they want to live outdoors in full or partial sun, with a drink whenever the soil starts to dry.
